Free Halloween Events in Toronto for Kids

Looking for free Halloween activities to do with your boils and ghouls? I’ve concocted a list of family-friendly events at Toronto’s public libraries. From crafts to costume swaps and puppet shows to pyjama parties, everyone’s sure to have a spooktacular time!

Thursday October 17
Halloween Crafternoon
Celebrate Halloween early by making your own set of spooky crafts, which you can use as decorations. All materials provided. For children 3 and up. Children 6 and under must be accompanied by a parent/caregiver.

Saturday October 19
DIY Electronics: Spooky Monster Luminaires
Make your own light-up paper bag monster to illuminate the Halloween season or any night throughout the year. This workshop is a great introduction for kids to learn how to build a simple circuit. All materials provided. For ages 8-12.

Costume Swap
Got a used mask, wig or costume? Don’t let it go to landfill by throwing it out. Drop by and exchange your dress-up pieces for a new look for your next costume party. A collaboration between Toronto Public Library’s environmentalist in residence, Sophi Robertson, and Richview library’s artist in the library, Amanda McCavour.

Horrorgami: Halloween Origami
Learn to make bats, ghosts and other creepy folded projects for Halloween. All skill levels welcome. For tweens and teens ages 11-16.

Halloween Story Time
A spooktacular story time full of not-at-all-scary tales of ghouls and ghosts and things that go bump in the night. Plus, make a creepy craft to take home and get a trick-or-treat surprise. Costumes welcome.

Halloween Family Story Time
Come and show off your Halloween costumes early and enjoy some spooky stories, hair-raising rhymes and scary songs. Make and take a Halloween craft, too.

Halloween Movie: Hocus Pocus
Watch the fun Halloween movie, Hocus Pocus, starring Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker. Feel free to bring your own snacks.

Halloween Story Time
Come in costume and join a spooktacular storytime. Pumpkins, spiders and ghosts, oh my! Stories and activities will be just scary enough for the preschooler crowd. For ages ages 0-5.

Let’s Get Ready for Halloween: Origami

Haunted Carnival
Find your way through the corn maze, stop for a visit and some slightly spooky stories at the haunted house, try your luck in the pumpkin patch and get crafty in the graveyard, if you dare. Don’t forget to come in costume. It’ll be a hoot.

Halloween Costume Party
Come in your favourite costume for a Halloween-inspired afternoon of games and crafts. All children who arrive in costume will be entered in a raffle for a chance to win a book prize.

A Morning Monster Mash
Come in your favourite costume for a Halloween-inspired morning, as we celebrate all things eerie and ghostly. A variety of events for children to take part in. Leave with a Halloween button as a token of our appreciation. All children who arrive in costume will be entered in a raffle for a chance to win a great prize.

Halloween Pyjama Time
Dress-up in your favourite costume or pyjamas and join us for stories, songs and a Halloween-themed craft. For ages 2-6.
