5 Noteworthy New Store Openings in Toronto

After eight years as an exclusively direct-to-consumer retailer, Canadian online mattress brand Endy has stepped into brick-and-mortar. Opened Nov. 9, at Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke, Endy’s first physical storefront joins ‘sleep shops’ Casper and Sleep Country, which entered the mall in 2018. All three brands fall under the Sleep Country Canada umbrella.

Also new to Sherway Gardens is large-format Italian food marketplace Eataly, which opened Nov. 2. Spanning 25,000 square feet, the second location in Toronto (the other is in Yorkville) features two restaurants, including the first Canadian outpost of Il Pastaio, five counters, a mozzarella lab as well as a wide selection of house-made Italian and Canadian products.

Costco’s newest location in the Rexdale neighbourhood of Etobicoke also opened its doors Nov. 2, in time for shoppers to merrily stuff their carts with deep-discounted merch leading up to the holiday season. The retailer’s 21st warehouse is among the largest in the Greater Toronto Area and includes parking for 1,200 vehicles in a multi-level underground garage with elevator access.

Home decor brand Mararamiro opened its first retail storefront close to the trendy neighbourhood of Roncesvalles in the city’s west end. Owned by a married couple, this location is in addition to Mararamiro’s shoppable studio space in Leslieville (another trendy neighbourhood but in Toronto’s east end) — the first and only shoppable photography studio in Canada that opened in 2020, during the pandemic.

For those with furry (or feathery or scaly) family members, Ren’s Pets has opened three stores this fall in Toronto’s Beaches neighbourhood, Markham and Oshawa, as part of an aggressive Canada-wide expansion plan. The retailer of pet food and supplies has launched more than a dozen new stores in Ontario this year, and has announced three other openings for spring 2024.
