NEIGHBOURHOOD
The sprawling neighbourhood known as the Waterfront Communities occupies a swath of the far downtown core that abuts Lake Ontario. It encompasses the sub-area of Harbourfront, which has the highest concentration of luxury condominium buildings in Toronto. Nearby attractions include the CN Tower, sports venues Rogers Centre and Scotiabank Arena, and Harbourfront Centre — the site of nearly 4,000 events a year, ranging from craft workshops and sailing lessons to jazz festivals, outdoor performances and food fairs.
PARKS AND REC
Pier 27 is part of a master planned community that includes five buildings, two of which are still slated to be built (11-storey and 45-storey). Included in the redevelopment is the creation of a new public park, replacing the surface parking lot that 29 Queens Quay East #504 presently overlooks.
Nearby is Sugar Beach, a two-acre park with an urban beach, plaza space for public events and tree-lined promenade featuring granite and tumbled concrete cobblestones in a maple leaf mosaic pattern.
If looking to leave the ‘mainland,’ the ferry docks are a two-minute walk away. From here, you can take one of three boat trips to the Toronto islands, comprised of most notably Centre Island (home to Centreville Amusement Park), Hanlan’s Point and Ward’s Island. The popular recreation destination is considered to be the largest urban car-free community in North America. There is ample parkland suitable for picnicking, several gardens and playgrounds, beaches, bicycle paths and a disc golf course. Canoes, kayaks and paddle boats can also be rented on the island.
TRANSIT
Public transit is at this condo’s doorstep, with buses running east-west along Queens Quay. The 172 Cherry Street route takes you to Canada’s busiest, multi-modal passenger transportation hub, Union station, where you can connect to the TTC‘s Yonge-University subway line, Go Transit, Via Rail or the UP Express that will take you to Pearson International Airport. If looking to travel west along the waterfront, the 509 Harbourfront streetcar line picks up just minutes away west of Yonge Street. Pier 27 has a transit score of 99 out of 100, making it a rider’s paradise.
